Description
English: Right elevation diagram of Elswick Ordnance 8-inch 45 calibre gun on centre pivot mounting for Japanese cruiser Takasago commissioned 1898.

Electric and auxiliary hand training gear is provided. Elevation is by hand, made possible by gun being balanced on knife-edges supported on springs, allowing 2° per second elevation. Gun can be trained manually through 60° in 25 seconds, and through 180° in 30 seconds using electric gear.

The shield is 4½ inches thick and is supported on elastic stays to absorb shock.
