Ikarus 256 or Ikarus 250[edit]

I think this bus may have been wrongly identified / classified. I think it looks like an Ikarus 250.

The difference between the two appears, from what I read in wikipedia, to be the length. The Ikarus 256 is an 11 meter bus which may be easier to drive round the narrow streets of an old city centre and maybe slightly cheaper to buy. The Ikarus 250 is a full-length 12 meter bus. More passengers and / or more leg space.

You cannot tell whether a bus is 11 meters or 12 meters long so easily. But looking at the pictures on wikipedia commons I think the 11 meter Ikarus 256 has five standard sized side windows (or doors of equivalent width) along each side of the bus, behind the driver. I think the 12 meter Ikarus 250 has six standard sized side windows (or doors of equivalent width) along each side of the bus, behind the driver. If that's right, then to me this looks like a picture of an Ikarus 250.

This is an Ikarus 256.44, a very common Ikarus 256 version. On its right side, it has two pneumatic double-doors, three medium sized windows, and two larger windows. Another common version is the 256.50. On its right side, it has two manual single doors, four larger windows and a small rear window behind the rear door.
You are right about the length differences between the 250 and 256. The easiest way of distinguishing them is counting the windows on the left side: The 256 has five windows, whereas the 250 has six windows instead. Another clear Ikarus 256 characteristic are the doors: I have never seen any 250 with double-doors, as far as I know, they all have two single-doors. Thank you. I guess I was caught out, with this bus, by some of the windows on the right side being less wide than the "regular" window width featured on the left side. Whatever ..... Regards Charles01 (talk) 08:33, 1 August 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
